This page explains which cookies IT-Checklist uses, who sets them and how long they stay. It also explains how to change your choice.
What are cookies?
A cookie is a small text file that a website stores in your browser. When you come back, the site reads that file again. That is how the site remembers which language you want, for example.
Which cookies we use
Two cookies are always needed. We set them ourselves and do not ask for consent. Google cookies for statistics and advertising are only added if you allow them in the cookie banner.
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Category | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| lang | IT-Checklist | Remembers whether you want to see the site in Dutch or English. It only applies to the domain you are on, so .nl and .com each remember their own choice. | Essential | 1 year |
| cookie_consent | IT-Checklist | Remembers which cookies you allow: statistics, advertising and personalized advertising. | Essential | 6 months |
| Google Analytics cookies | Measure how the site is used, for example which pages people visit. | Statistics (only with your consent) | See Google's overview (opens in new tab) | |
| Google AdSense cookies | Show ads and measure how often they are shown and clicked. | Advertising (only with your consent) | See Google's overview (opens in new tab) | |
| Google AdSense cookies for personalization | Tailor ads to your interests, based on your browsing behaviour. | Personalized advertising (only with your consent) | See Google's overview (opens in new tab) |
Exactly which cookies Google uses and how long they stay changes from time to time. Google keeps its own list: cookies used by Google (opens in new tab).
The site’s administrators log in to a separate admin area, which needs login cookies. Visitors never get those, so they are not in the table.
The contact page has a spam check from Cloudflare Turnstile. Cloudflare only mentions a cookie (cf_clearance) when a site switches on the ‘pre-clearance’ option. We do not use it. The check itself runs in a Cloudflare frame (challenges.cloudflare.com). According to Cloudflare’s cookie policy (opens in new tab) Cloudflare may use essential security cookies there, such as cf_chl_rc_i and cf_chl_rc_ni, to recognize bots. These do not need consent, so they are not in the cookie banner.
What happens if you do not consent
We use Google Consent Mode v2. On your first visit, everything that needs consent is switched off. Google Analytics and Google AdSense can only set cookies once you switch the category on in the cookie banner.
If you switch statistics off, Google Analytics sets no cookies. Google may still receive separate signals without a cookie, for example that a page was viewed.
If you switch advertising off, you still see ads. These are limited ads. They are not tailored to you, and Google only uses cookies or other identifiers to fight fraud and fake clicks.
Does your browser send a Global Privacy Control signal and have you not made a choice yet? Then we switch statistics and advertising cookies off automatically.
Changing your choice
You can change your choice at any time. Click the button below or ‘Cookie settings’ at the bottom of any page. The cookie banner then opens again.
Deleting cookies in your browser
You can also delete or block cookies yourself in your browser. How that works differs per browser. Look in the privacy or cookie settings, or search your browser’s help for ‘delete cookies’. If you delete the cookie_consent cookie, the banner asks for your choice again on your next visit. If you block all cookies, the site cannot remember your language.
